SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES AND STUDENT LOANS ADMINISTRATION

In 2016, the Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) took over the administration of student loans and scholarships from the Bursaries Committee. 

The student loans are given to Undergraduate students from the following universities: The University of Zambia UNZA, Copperbelt University CBU, Kapasa Makasa KMU, Mukuba University MKU, Mulungushi University MU, Chalimbana University CHAU and Kwame Nkrumah University KNU. Please note that students are required to repay the loan one year after leaving their institution of learning.

Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) also administers scholarships received from friendly nations at Undergraduate, Masters and PhD levels. The scholarships are advertised in the newspaper and HELSB website. 

HELSB administers the following international scholarships Algerian Student Scholarships, Cuban Student Scholarships, Cyproit Student Scholarships, Czech Republican Student Scholarships, Egyptian Student Scholarships, Indian Student Scholarships, Serbian Student Scholarships, Tunisian Student Scholarships, Turkish Student Scholarships, Russian Student Scholarships, Commonwealth Student Scholarships, Moroccan Student Scholarships and Chinese Student Scholarships

HOW TO APPLY FOR STUDENT LOAN IN ZAMBIA

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Zambians that meet the minimum requirements outlined here below to apply for Undergraduate GRZ Student Loans. (Check the daily newspapers or HELSB website for advertisements)

Applicants should be:

  1. Zambians with ¬– Green National Registration Card (NRC)
  2. School leavers admitted to the above listed universities.
  3. School leavers
  4. 24 years old or below 

Applicants should submit the following:

  • An application letter responding to the advertisement;
  • A photocopy of the academic year Admission Letter from the listed Public University
  • A photocopy of Grade 12 Statement of Results or Certificate;
  • A photocopy of the candidate’s NRC;
  • A photocopy of candidate’s Parent’s/Guardian’s NRC;
  • Two (2) recent passport size photos of the candidate with their names written at the back;
  • An application form bought from any NATSAVE branch; and
  • A clear copy of the receipt from the bank.

Do not send or hand deliver any application documents to any institution other than the ones provided below.

The student loan is not transferable from one University to another. Students wishing to apply for the loan should, therefore, be clear in their applications.

K100.00 for the student loan application form should be deposited at any NATSAVE branch countrywide.

NOTE: No cash payments will be accepted at HELSB offices.

Rural students, female students and students living with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

The Loans are limited and scaled down according to the level of support required. Applicants should, therefore, indicate in their application the level of the loan required. However, the Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) reserves the right to determine the actual level of the loan. Loans are awarded according to HELSB’s financial capacity and, therefore, admission into the University does not necessarily guarantee the applicant a GRZ student loan.

HOW TO APPLY FOR INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS IN ZAMBIA

Applicants should submit:

  1. Letter of application responding to the advertisement, clearly stating the program of study desired, age, day-time phone number for easy communication;
  2. Curriculum Vitae, certified photocopies of academic certificates, certified photocopies of applicant’s NRC, Birth Certificate and passport copies of pages 2 & 3
  3. A study plan or synopsis summarized details of preferred course and how the intended course of study will enhance one’s contribution to Zambia’s development agenda (200 words for undergraduates and 400 words for postgraduates on one face of an A4 page).

It is a requirement by the host countries that all nominated candidates undergo comprehensive medical examination, including HIV, TB and Hepatitis B
