The National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) was established in 1962 as a Staff Training College for the Civil Service. This was one of the strategies adopted by the Government to meet the emerging challenges of building a new nation on Zambia’s attainment of independence on 24th October, 1964.

The Institute has over the years evolved to meet the nation’s training and development challenges. In 1998, the Institute was transformed into a commercial entity under Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1998, as part of the Public Service Reform Programme (PSRP) launched by the Government in 1993.

On receiving Presidential assent in October 1998, and following the appointment of the Governing Council by the President in December 1999, the new NIPA started operations under the new mandate on 1st January, 2000.

The institute offers a number of Full-Time programs and Part-Time programs. NIPA also offers a wide range of certificate, diploma and post-graduate programmes in various disciplines such as accountancy, management and administration, information systems and technology, marketing, purchasing and supply and project management.

These classes are conducted from 17:00 hours to 19:00 hours during weekdays and from 08:00 hours to 17:00 hours on weekends. These programmes are more suited for clients who cannot make it during working hours..
