Zambia has consistently continued registering increased growth in the construction industry. Due to a rise in construction activities, there has been increased utilization of land that was previously un-surveyed for construction purposes which has led to shortage of trained and skilled personnel in the industry. The shortage of trained construction surveying personnel is further worsened due to the phasing out of surveying training programmes at both certificate and diploma levels in colleges and trades schools.
It is against this background that the Skills Award in Basic Land Surveying Training Programme has been developed to meet the increased demand for qualified construction land surveying personnel.
Programme purpose
The purpose of the programme is to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills and attitudes required to enable them carry out basic land surveying activities to acceptable standards using both basic and high precision instruments; and produce raw data within the required accuracy and precision, which would later be used by design engineers for production of design plans and specifications.
